Q&A
Q: StarZol total RNA extraction reagent has chloroform version and chloroform-free version. How to choose?
A: Chloroform-free version StarZol is a new popular product after 2023 when chloroform is not well controlled and purchased. It is a chloroform-free upgraded version of traditional TRIzol and is widely used to extract Total RNA and Small RNA from various animal tissues, plant materials, cultured cells, bacteria and other samples. Compared with the traditional TRIzol extraction method, this product does not require the use of chloroform for stratification, the operation is simpler, and the whole process can be carried out at room temperature. The RNA extracted by this product has basically no residual DNA, and the extracted RNA can be directly used in various molecular biology experiments such as cDNA cloning, qRT-PCR detection, mRNA purification, in vitro translation, Northern blotting hybridization, high-throughput sequencing, etc.
Q: What is the uniqueness of the SP-ribo-seq-Pool for human-mouse-rat kit?
A: This is mainly designed for ribo-seq applications, not conventional rRNA removal. In ribo-seq applications, enzymes are used to cut mRNA during sample pretreatment. All mRNAs that are not being translated will be chopped up, and mRNAs that are being translated will be protected by ribosomes to form small fragments of more than 30 nt. The same is true for rRNA. Conventional rRNA removal kits cannot remove these small rRNAs very well. The general removal efficiency is below 40%, while this can reach 70-80% or higher for ribo-seq.
